Fake an Egg Beginner Guide: First Pet and First Steal

A complete Fake an Egg beginner route: hatch your first pet, unlock the Shark, disguise as an egg, steal a pet safely and spend your first cash.

Last Updated: October 26, 2026

Fake an Egg looks like a pet simulator until you realise the pets are not really yours. Other players can climb into your pen, disguise themselves as an egg, and walk out with the best animal you own. Your own fastest progress comes from doing exactly the same thing back to them.

This route covers the free pets most new players miss, the disguise timing, the steal that actually completes, and the purchases that keep your pen from becoming a free pet shop.

What you are actually playing

Fake an Egg launched on October 4, 2026, from Slime Time Studios. Servers hold 10 players, and by October 26 the game had passed 25 million visits with roughly 30,000 to 40,000 players online at peak. A round has no timer and no win screen. You build a cash engine in your own pen, then raid other pens for pets that make the engine bigger.

The loop has four steps:

  1. Buy an egg and carry it back to your pen.
  2. Hatch the pet and let it generate cash.
  3. Disguise yourself as an egg in someone else's pen.
  4. Get bought, grab their best pet, and escape home.

Everything else, from mutations to rebirths, exists to make one of those four steps faster.

Minute 0-5: finish the tutorial properly

The tutorial gives you a free Bunny Egg. Place it on a nest pad inside your pen and wait out the hatch timer. The Bunny is weak, producing only a few dollars per second, but it is the start of every cash chain in the game.

Two things are easy to miss in the first five minutes.

Your pen is the fenced square with your username above it. The egg field in the middle of the map is shared. Your pen is not. If you carry an egg somewhere random and cannot find a nest pad, you have probably walked into another player's base.

The feeder is on the left side of your base. It holds pet food, and a full feeder gives every pet in that pen a 50% cash bonus. You do not need it in minute one, but you will need it before your third pet. Carrot food costs $2,000 and fills about 5% of the bar; Apple food unlocks at rebirth 2 and fills about 12%.

The tutorial also teaches the sell step. When your pen is full, open the Pets panel, sort by income, remove the weakest pet, and take it to the sell shop near the leaderboards. Selling returns cash; it does not return the egg.

The free Shark most beginners walk past

After the tutorial, do two things before you buy anything:

  • Like the game.
  • Join the Slime Time Studios group.

Both buttons are on the Roblox page, not inside the game. Once you have done them, a shark sits in a cage near the centre of the map. Walk up and interact with it. The Shark becomes a pet and is dramatically stronger than the starter Bunny. It is the single biggest free upgrade available to a new account, and it costs nothing but two clicks.

If the cage will not open, check that the group join actually registered. Leaving and rejoining the server is faster than standing there clicking.

How to disguise without wasting time

Every pen has a green pipe. Walk into it and you get a menu of eggs you have already unlocked. Pick one and you become that egg, sitting in a nest with a price tag.

The price on your shell is what a buyer pays when they pick you up. A Bunny disguise advertises $30. That is not free money, but it is not the point either: the point is getting inside a pen with better pets.

Three timing rules matter more than the disguise itself:

Situation What to do Why
Owner is in the pen, facing the nests Wait or choose another pen They can see the egg move and hit you
Owner is at the feeder or sell shop Disguise and stay still Their attention is off the nest row
A buyer is walking the rows Stop moving completely Real eggs only hop and turn slowly

A real egg never spins fast, never runs in a straight line for long, and never pauses mid-hop to watch a player. If you move like an egg with somewhere to be, you get caught. If you sit still and let the buyer come to you, you usually get bought.

How to steal a pet and actually get home

Being bought is only the entry. Once you are inside the pen, a prompt appears: Steal their pet! Grab the pet and a second prompt appears: Escape to your base!

The mistake is grabbing the most expensive pet you can see. The owner has a bat, and they will chase you. A $7 million T-Rex is not worth losing because you picked it while the owner was standing two steps away.

Use this order:

  1. Check where the owner is before you grab anything.
  2. Pick the highest-income pet that is close to the pen exit.
  3. Run for your own pen immediately; do not stop to look at the pet.
  4. If the owner is already swinging, drop the steal and leave. A failed steal costs you the trip, not the pet you already own.

A stolen pet has to reach your pen to count. Carrying it across the map is the dangerous part, which is why the map route page matters more than the tier list at this stage.

Your first 60 minutes, in order

Step Action Cash target Reason
1 Hatch the free Bunny $0 Starts passive income
2 Like + join group, claim Shark $0 Biggest free pet
3 Buy a Cat Egg $47 Cheap second income source
4 Buy a Dog Egg $96 Better income per slot
5 Add one pen slot Varies Stops forcing constant selling
6 Buy Carrot food $2,000 +50% on every pet in the pen

Do not save for a $15,000 Wolf Egg while your pen still holds two pets. The early game is about filling slots with cheap income, not about owning one impressive animal. A full pen of common pets out-earns an empty pen with a rare egg timer running.

Pen slot prices rise with each purchase, so buy them when you are already producing steady cash, not before. The upgrade sign is behind the pen; walk around the back fence and interact with it.

Five beginner mistakes

Stealing in your own pen. You cannot steal from yourself, and standing in your pen disguised does nothing except waste a trip.

Ignoring the Index. The blue book button tracks pets, weathers and mutations. Claiming completed entries pays cash and sometimes gear. It is the easiest money in the game that does not require a steal.

Buying the most expensive egg you can afford. A $250,000 Crocodile Egg leaves you with no cash for food, slots or a second pet. Buy one tier below your total balance until your income is stable.

Selling pets you just stole. Stolen pets produce cash in your pen. Sell duplicates, not your new best pet.

Forgetting that rebirth keeps pets. A rebirth resets cash and gives a multiplier. It does not wipe your collection, so there is no reason to hoard cash you could spend before rebirthing.

FAQ

What is the first pet in Fake an Egg? The tutorial gives you a Bunny from a free Bunny Egg. It is a common pet with low income, but it is enough to start buying Cat and Dog Eggs.

How do I get the Shark for free? Like the game and join the Slime Time Studios group, then interact with the shark cage near the middle of the map.

Can you steal pets without disguising? No. The green pipe is the entry point. You need an unlocked egg to use as a disguise, and you need to be bought before the steal prompt appears.

What happens if the owner catches you? You get hit with their bat and lose the pet you were carrying. You keep everything already in your own pen.

Should I rebirth as soon as I can? Only after you have spent spare cash on pen slots and food. Rebirth resets cash, so arrive with the upgrades already bought.

Where do I buy eggs? At the central egg field. Prices and rarity are listed on each egg's label; the full table is in our Fake an Egg eggs guide. For what to keep, use the best pets tier list, and for the cash order after the tutorial, read the money progression guide.
