Tame An Animal Beginner Guide: Your First Hour

A first-hour Tame An Animal route: beat wild animals, tame your first pet, build a team and clear a dungeon without wasting gems.

Last Updated: October 27, 2026

Tame An Animal is not a pet game where you buy an egg and wait. You fight the animal first, weaken it, and then bring it onto your side. That one difference changes how the first hour should be spent: you need a weapon and a team before you need a collection.

This guide covers the shortest route through the opening, what the cash shop quietly tells you about the real mechanics, and the mistakes that cost new players their first dungeon run.

What you are playing

Tame An Animal is a Roblox action-adventure from Starbuilt Games, published on August 23, 2026. Servers hold 12 players, and the game has been updated almost every week since launch. On October 27, 2026 it was sitting at about 3,600 concurrent players, 1.31 million visits, 17,758 likes against 300 dislikes (98.3% positive) and 96,552 favorites.

Four lines in the official description are the whole pitch:

  • Defeat wild animals.
  • Summon animals to fight with you.
  • Conquer dungeons and earn rewards.
  • Explore the world with ships and mounts.

Team up with friends is the fifth line, and it matters more than it sounds: 12-player servers plus dungeon rewards means this is a co-op game with a collection attached, not a solo grind.

The loop in five steps

Every session, short or long, runs the same circle.

  1. Fight a wild animal. Pick a target you can survive, not the largest thing on the map.
  2. Weaken it. Taming is a process, not a button. The store sells Instant Tame and Auto Tame, which only exist because the free version takes time and attention.
  3. Tame it. You now own a unit that can be summoned, stored or replaced.
  4. Set your team. Equip slots limit how many animals fight beside you. A second pass sells +2 slots, so the free cap is small.
  5. Spend the rewards on a dungeon run. Gems and coins come out of fights and dungeons, and both feed better animals.

Then repeat at a higher level. If a session does not move one of those five steps forward, it was a session spent walking.

What the Robux store tells you

Most beginner guides skip the store. Read it backwards and it explains the design.

Pass What it reveals
Instant Tame Taming normally has a timer or a channel you must hold
Auto Tame Taming is repetitive enough that players pay to skip the input
+100 Storage You are expected to own far more animals than you can carry into battle
+2 Equip Slots Your active team is small, so each slot is a real decision
2x Coins / 2x Gems Two currencies, both earned in play
Teleport The map is big enough that walking is a cost
Auto Command Summoned animals take orders, and those orders can be automated
VIP The usual bundle of conveniences, not a new animal
Pegasus A named mount existed as a paid unlock and is currently off sale

None of this is required to play. It is useful because it tells you where the friction is: taming time, storage, team size and travel. Spend your first free currency on removing one of those four, not on a cosmetic.

Your first 60 minutes

No fixed prices here, because the developer does not publish a price list and the in-game numbers change with updates. Use the order, then read the number on the screen before you confirm anything.

Order Do this Why
1 Finish the tutorial prompts They hand you the first weapon and the first tame
2 Tame one common animal near the spawn area You need a summon before you need a rare
3 Test the fight controls on a low-level animal Learn the dodge and the attack timing while nothing is at stake
4 Take the second tame, even if it looks weak Two bodies beat one, and you learn the team menu
5 Walk the shoreline before you buy anything You will see which areas need a ship or a mount
6 Open one dungeon only after your team is full A half team is a wasted key or a wasted trip

The temptation is to chase a big animal you saw in the key art. Do not. A crystal wolf or crystal dragon in the Halloween art is a high-tier target, and a new account does not have the damage to weaken one before it kills the summon it is standing next to.

How taming actually works

The pattern is consistent across devices even if the prompt is not:

  1. Engage the animal and bring its health down. The bar matters; a full-health animal will not accept a tame.
  2. When the tame prompt appears, hold or repeat the interaction the game shows you.
  3. Keep the animal from resetting. If it walks away or you break line of sight, the progress can drop.
  4. Confirm the tame, then open the team menu and equip it.

Two practical notes. First, fight with your current summon out, not alone: your animal takes aggro while you land hits. Second, tame the animal you can actually use. A rare tame that sits in storage because your team is full is worth less than a common one that fights beside you tonight.

Building a team that survives

A team of five damage dealers dies to the first boss with an area attack. Aim for roles instead:

  • One bruiser to hold the front and take hits.
  • One burst damage animal for the moment a boss is staggered.
  • One ranged or support animal if you have it, because it keeps damage flowing while you dodge.
  • Fill the rest with the strongest bodies you own, then replace the weakest each session.

Your team is not permanent. Swapping a level 5 common for a level 12 uncommon is a straight upgrade, and the game does not punish you for it. The only thing you should never do is sell or release an animal you have not tested in a dungeon, because dungeon performance is where the tier list actually matters.

Your first dungeon

Treat the first run as a scouting trip. Join with a full team, follow the group instead of leading, and watch what the boss does before you commit damage. The dungeon guide covers roles and wipe prevention in detail; the short version is that dungeons reward preparation and punish impatience.

If you cannot find the entrance, ask in chat. Twelve-player servers mean there is almost always someone farming the same dungeon, and following a group is free.

Five beginner mistakes

Taming everything you see. Storage is limited, and the +100 Storage pass exists for a reason. Keep animals you will use or that fill a role, not every animal you meet.

Fighting above your level for a rare. A rare tame is not worth ten minutes of dying. Come back when your team can survive the fight.

Ignoring the codes menu. Four codes were published in the game description. They are free, they take a minute, and the codes page lists them with the source for each.

Skipping the water. Ships are not decoration. Some of the map is only reachable by sea, and the maps and mounts guide explains the order to open it.

Buying a mount before a team. A mount makes travel faster. A full team makes dungeons possible. Team first.

FAQ

What do you do first in Tame An Animal? Finish the tutorial, tame one common animal near spawn, then fill your team before you touch a dungeon. The first tame is the gate to everything else.

How many animals can you carry? The free team is small enough that the store sells +2 Equip Slots, and storage is capped enough that it sells +100 Storage. Check the current cap in your team menu, because weekly updates can change it.

Do you need Robux to tame animals? No. Instant Tame and Auto Tame save time, not access. Every animal in the game is tamed by fighting it.

How many players are in a server? Twelve. That is small enough to recognise regulars and large enough to fill a dungeon group.

Is Tame An Animal pay-to-win? It is pay-to-skip. The passes remove waiting and walking, but a player who fights and tames will still out-scale a player who only buys. Start with the animals guide to see how the collection fits together, then read the best animals tier list once you have a few tames to compare.
